You can have fast access to your favorite programs by placing a shortcut next to the Start button. 
If you don't want to use up the disk space taken by Hibernation, or don't need to use it at all, you can easily disable it. 1. Open up the Control Panel / Power Options icon 2. Click on the Hibernation icon 3. Uncheck Enable Hibernation
If you need to take a break and don't want your coworkers to use your computer while you are away, do the following:
1. Press the Windows key + L at the same time and it will lock the computer.
